Conference The Man of the Anthropocene
The conference The Man of the Anthropocene summarised a programme block held at the Pracze Wrocławskie Campus of the EIT+ Research Centre. It was devoted to an epochal, geosystemic change: in 2016, the process of scientific legitimisation of the Anthropocene entered a decisive phase – the International Working Group on the Anthropocene recommended in April to acknowledge it as a new geological era. A new environmental awareness is accompanied by interesting arguments and tensions that reveal our way of thinking and culture at a time of humankind’s full responsibility for the Earth. During the conference we introduced the atmosphere of the debate oscillating between science and culture, and showed visions of life in the Anthropocene. The two-day meeting at the Pracze Wrocławskie Campus comprised lectures, speeches and discussion panels focusing on this epochal change.
The conference was interdisciplinary in character. It was co-created by scientists, curators, artists (including those involved in the BODY exhibition), opinion leaders, journalists and thinkers. Among the participants were Agnieszka Gałuszka, Jason W. Moore, Kerstin Oloff, Andrzej W. Nowak, Piotr Matczak, Agnieszka Kowalczyk.
