Conference Interfaces, codes, symbols. The future of communication

16-17.05.2016

The conference Interfaces, codes and symbols. The future of communication, which was held at the White Stork Synagogue, was an attempt to identify the directions where science and technology are already headed in terms of the development of communication. The curators of the conference – Edwin Bendyk and Aleksandra Przegalińska (aided by Mirosław Filiciak and Alek Tarkowski) – took as their starting point a sentence uttered by Marshall McLuhan, a renowned and controversial researcher of the media – “The medium is the message.”

The guests invited to the conference included some of the most outstanding representatives of cognitive, trans- and post-humanist milieus, such as Peter A. Gloor (an American scientist associated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, proponent of the Collaborative Innovation Networks concept), Patrycja Slawuta (a social psychologist who runs the SelfHackathon programme in New York, which translates scientific knowledge into everyday life) and Wodzisław Duch (head of the Neurocognitive Laboratory at the Centre for Modern Interdisciplinary Technologies, Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toruń). The conference was also attended by Bina48, the world’s first humanoid robot based on metafiles – a database of the thoughts of a real human being. It was the first time the robot had visited Poland.
